Deaf and Hard of Hearing Mental Health

I specialize in the field of mental health for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I am bilingual in American Sign Language and have extensive training and research in:

  • Deaf culture

  • Psychosocial effects of hearing loss

  • Language dysfluency problems

  • Families with CODA children and hearing parents with a Deaf child.

I am skilled in lip reading and able to work within multi modal communication methods that are sensitive and culturally appropriate.

Training includes five years working for a grant funded Deaf services mental health program providing individual, couple & family therapy for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population throughout the state of New Hampshire.

My experience includes:

  • Advocacy and policy training on ADA laws with hearing providers.

  • Presentations on Deaf culture and Deaf mental health via reaching out to police departments, hospital staff, and mental health providers in different NH communities.

  • Psychiatric emergency clinical consultations/evaluations in hospital emergency rooms for patients that were Deaf.

Working closely with Deaf therapist professionals, certified and licensed American Sign Language interpreters and other expert professionals in the field of Deaf mental health I have developed a clinical practice geared towards Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals that is language inclusive and oriented to Deaf culture.

I have a personal background and passion for this work within the Deaf community as I grew up within an Oral Deaf family.
